Magic Island is within Ala Moana Beach Park just outside Waikiki, about 10-20 minutes away, and depending upon traffic .
It's super convenient, scenic, and photographs well. It has plenty of parking Monday to Thursday and it's handicap accessible.
Friday works but, parking is always tight in the late afternoon and especially during the summer and holidays. We can do Saturday in the mornings only and Sunday mornings and sunset.
The spot we prefer is a grassy area about 200 yards from the parking lot up against the jetty and ocean to give the best unobstructed view of the ocean, Waikiki, and Diamond Head.
We do not use the beach for ceremonies for a variety of reasons. Order a extended portrait sunset session for couple beach scenics.
Afternoon has the best light as the sun is facing you for good lighting. Morning works too but, depending upon the time of year and conditions, there can be a bright glare on the ocean making it less saturated in color earlier in the mornings.
We do not use the sunset as a background for ceremonies, it's too bright but, we can do sunset photos on the beach during the fall/winter and depending upon the conditions i.e. when there are no clouds to block the sun, we do silhouette shots. Read more.
